Every time my feed serves up posts about Kibbe body types, style archetypes, or color seasons, my skin crawls just a little. Don’t get me wrong, I think there is useful information at the core of these systems! I’m sure there’s a reason I look amazing in red and don’t love wearing tight turtlenecks, but let a girl take credit for her choices, will ya! If taken too far, these systems strip you of agency and deprive you of credit for your own unique, beautiful taste.
Imagine you give someone a compliment. Which answer is more interesting? “Thanks! I’m a deep summer soft dark goddess dramatic pixie, so I look best in…” or, “Thank you! I found this piece while traveling, and the color just reminded me of beautiful moss on a forest floor!”
These systems put people in boxes. They tell you, “If you are this, you must wear this.” And honestly, not only do I find that so freaking boring, but I find it deeply unfair! You chose to wear that jacket, you picked it out because you liked it! You chose to pair it with that bag and those shoes! You deserve the credit for your beautiful unique taste, not some system!
Personal style is about celebrating your tastes, instincts, and creativity! I teach my 1:1 clients to listen to themselves and to CELEBRATE their choices! We explore what excites them, what feels authentic, and how to translate that into a wardrobe that reflects what they love! As a style coach, I’m not dressing them or telling them what to wear, instead I am there to guide them on their journey of fashion self-discovery. When they get complimented on their outfits, I expect them to bask in that well-deserved compliment and take FULL credit for that style choice.
The goal isn’t fitting into a box! The goal is creating a style that feels authentically you.
Fashion should celebrate your impulses, your artistry, and your individuality. That's what makes style powerful. That’s what makes it yours.
